How to Feel Comfortable in Front of the Camera on Your Wedding Day.

If the thought of being photographed all day makes your stomach flip, you are not alone. Almost every couple I work with tells me the same thing, “We are so awkward in photos”.

Here is the truth most people do not tell you.

Feeling awkward in photos has nothing to do with how you look and everything to do with how you are guided. Being comfortable in front of the camera is not about knowing how to pose. It is about feeling safe, relaxed and genuinely present with the person you love.

MOST COUPLES FEEL AWKWARD IN FRONT OF A CAMERA

Most of us only experience being photographed during big moments. Weddings, formals, milestone events. That pressure alone can make anyone stiffen up.

Add in traditional posing, being told where to stand, how to tilt your head, when to smile, and suddenly it feels like a performance rather than a real moment.

This is why so many couples say they want candid, natural wedding photos but worry they will not know what to do.

What actually helps you relax

The biggest shift happens when photography becomes guided, not posed.

Instead of standing still and smiling on cue, you are gently encouraged to move, interact and focus on each other.

Walking, laughing, holding hands, leaning in, pausing. Real movement creates real emotion.

Your photographer should feel less like someone directing you and more like someone quietly supporting the flow of the day.

This is exactly how I work with couples on a wedding day, focusing on gentle guidance, movement and creating space for real connection.

"Grace always makes me feel incredibly comfortable in front of the camera."

You do not need to perform

You do not need to be confident in front of the camera.

You do not need to practise posing.

You do not need to be photogenic.

You just need a photographer who understands how to create space for connection rather than pressure. The best photos come from moments where you forget the camera is even there.

If you are planning a wedding in Melbourne or the Mornington Peninsula and want photos that feel natural, relaxed and true to you, choosing the right photographer makes all the difference.
